Job Description
The Head of our US Commercial Analytics team within Gilead's Commercial Analytics and Forecasting organization will be responsible for providing actionable business analytics and insights to all of Gilead's business units (HIV, HCV, HBV, CardioPulmonary, Inflammation), and to the Managed Markets Sales and Marketing teams, driving analytics innovation across Commercial Operations and integrating insights across the patient, prescriber, and payer landscapes. Leading a team of ~10 professionals with 3-4 direct reports, the Head of Commercial Analytics will report to the Executive Director, Commercial Analytics & Forecasting, North America, and would frequently interact with senior and executive management.

This role requires leveraging a broad and deep skill set (functional expertise, therapeutic area knowledge, communication skills, leadership and influencing, executive presence, etc.) to help drive the success of work across a variety of key stakeholders - including business unit, brand and managed markets marketing leads, peer functional leads within Commercial Analytics & Forecasting, Commercial Operations, Finance, and executive leadership.

Specific responsibilities

Commercial Analytics:

Lead development of data-based insights to inform brand, franchise, and business unit strategy and execution.

Oversee, set agenda, and provide support and guidance for the team by:

  • Collaborating with brand marketing leadership to establish an annual business analytics plan for each brand
  • Leveraging data and analytics to develop key insights to inform each brand's strategy through the BPOA (Brand Plan of Action) process
  • Conducting secondary data analytics projects to inform a range of business issues, including MD and patient segmentation, customer journey and treatment flow analytics, sampling strategy, and managed markets analytics, etc.
  • Performance reporting and diagnostics, including design and implementation of HQ facing dashboards and reports
  • Evaluating potential new secondary data sources and analytics methodologies to continually elevate the impact of business analytics
  • Collaborating within Commercial Analytics & Forecasting to ensure business analytics context is integrated into and derives from Forecasting, Tactic Measurement and Marketing Mix, Market Research, and to identify opportunities to integrate new capabilities from the AI/Predictive Analytics Lab
  • Regularly communicating with senior executives and strategic partners to report analytical insights to ensure business issues are addressed and optimal business decisions can be made

  • Set an expectation and goal to serve as a trusted advisor to business unit leads and partners/stakeholders across the organization; develop team to in all cases focus on the business need, extract and deliver key insights and implications for Gilead, and tailor and present findings appropriately to maximize relevance and impact
  • Collaborate effectively with senior leaders across multiple functions and business units
  • Communicate complex dynamics/challenges in a clear and concise manner to senior leaders
  • Provide recommendations with objective and actionable insights to senior and executive management
  • Navigate organizational complexity effectively in a professional manner

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • BS degree (or higher) in life sciences or medicine (or equivalent); Advanced degrees desirable
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company is desirable; relevant experience in biopharmaceutical-focused consulting would also be considered
  • Evidence of team and project leadership (interaction with cross-functional partners, conflict resolution, and consensus-driving) and project management (planning, prioritization, objective setting, meeting management, and plan execution) is required
  • Prior experience building a team, defining new roles, and driving successful implementation is highly desired
  • Strong communication/influencing skills and executive presence required
  • A foundation of experience in one or more of Gilead's key therapeutic areas (HIV, liver disease, inflammation) is desirable
  • Proven experience communicating complicated analytics simply and clearly for senior management is required
  • Deep understanding of biotech/pharma market trends, best practices to enable forward looking plans
  • Proven history of working and delivering on multiple projects simultaneously, with tight deadlines and changing priorities is required
  • Strong ability to use Microsoft Office (specifically PowerPoint and Excel) to present quantitative data in graphical form is required
  • Passionate about the function
