Job Description
Senior Electrical Engineer

Gilead Sciences has an opportunity for an experienced, dependable Senior Electrical Engineer/Sr. Manufacturing Engineer I to join our team. We are seeking motivated, team-oriented individuals with thorough knowledge and expertise in facility-level electrical design and engineering for low-voltage systems and medium voltage (12kV and below), including power distribution systems, emergency generators, UPS systems, Solar systems, motor controls, plan power, lighting, control systems, energy management and monitoring system(s) and PLC based electrical distribution.

This position's responsibilities include but are not limited to: analyzing existing electrical systems, making cost-effective improvements, conducting research and designing developmental testing methods, reinforcing quality assurance, equipment inspection, running system diagnostics, executing preventive maintenance (PMs), and updating documentation (e.g. electrical diagrams).

An essential component of this job will require the candidate to work with the business users and groups to understand their processes and how technology can support and bridge any gaps. The person in this role will need to be an analytical thinker and a strong communicator with an attention for detail. Projects and assignments must be completed on time and to specifications.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for facility-level electrical design and engineering for low-voltage systems and medium voltage (12kV and below), including power distribution systems, emergency generators, UPS systems, Solar systems, motor controls, plan power, lighting, control systems, energy management and monitoring system(s) and PLC based electrical distribution
  • Developing, reviewing, updating, modifying, and approving electrical design plans and schedules.
  • Liaising with in-house clients and other engineers internal and/or external to ensure projects are completed to specifications and on time
  • Establishing relationships with in-house clients, vendors, suppliers, other professionals, and expanding networks
  • Maintaining electrical systems and improving existing engineering processes
  • Participate in Communities of Practice (CoP), events, and networking and learning opportunities.
  • Develop drawings, budgets, schedules, company regulations, and various other documents
  • Scheduling site(s) shutdowns as required for electrical PM's and improvements
  • Initiate site energy-saving initiatives
  • Conducting research, performing diagnostics, and troubleshooting equipment and electrical control systems
  • Assist in training other departments, as needed

  • Ensures GMP compliance and safe work practices to align with effective SOPs.


Knowledge & Skills
  • Able to understand and communicate engineering and maintenance solutions or needs to different internal audiences.
  • Able to develop solutions to a wide range of complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment and support multiple activities simultaneously. Determines personal work plan, and schedules tasks and activities with minimal supervision.
  • Planning and organizational skills coupled with time management skills.
  • Understanding and application of relevant principles, concepts, practices, and standards, and solid knowledge of industry practices for maintenance and engineering.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory guidance, including pharmaceutical GMPs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity, trust, ethics and values.
  • Action oriented, timely decision making and ability to act within ambiguity


Required
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and seven (7) years of relevant experience, OR a Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive practical/hands-on experience.
  • Practical to proficient experience with CAD software.
  • Additional license or certification may be required (e.g. OSHA).


Preferred
  • Experience in pharmaceutical operations/cGMP environment highly desirable.
  • Previous experience within a commercial pharmaceutical environment desired.
